In observance of the Thanksgiving last week, my 14 years old, Nour wrote this letter for a class assignment.

Hal Helaloo

I love this song!! It makes me cry and happy at the same time. I cry that I have missed 12 Ramadans away from Amman and that my kids have missed that special atmosphere for Ramadan.

Husam and I try to create that atmosphere around our house, but it's only us and few other families but the rest of our surroundings have nothing to do with our holy month.
It makes me happy because I feel very charged with positive energy and I try to pass it to the kids :)

I've learned..hope you do too!!

I've learned - that you cannot make someone love you. All you can do is be someone who can be loved. The rest is up to them.

I've learned - that you can do something in an instant that will give you heartache for life.

I've learned - that it's taking me a long time to become the person I want to be.

I've learned - that we are responsible for what we do, no matter how we feel.

I've learned - that either you control your attitude or it controls you.

I've learned - that sometimes the people you expect to kick you when you're down will be the ones to help you get back up.

I've learned - that maturity has more to do with what types of experiences you've had and what you've learned from them and less to do with how many years you've celebrated.

I've learned - that no matter how good a friend is, they're going to hurt you every once in a while and you must forgive them for that.

I've learned - that our background and circumstances may have influenced who we are, but we are responsible for who we become.

I've learned - that just because two people argue, it doesn't mean they don't love each other and just because they don't argue, it doesn't mean they do.

I've learned - that even when you think you have no more to give, when a friend cries out to you, you will find the strength to help.

I've learned - that credentials on the wall do not make you a decent human being.

I've learned - that the people you care about most in life are taken from you too soon.

Things to remember with my kids

1. Be more patient with our children.  Don’t yell.  Listen more.  You have no idea how impressed you might be when you just give them a chance.
2. Help them explore the world.  Children are curious by nature, do not squash it.
3. Accept that they might stray from the more accepted paths and let them follow their dreams.
4. Give them the freedom to do what they love.
5. Teach them honesty by example.  Do not lie to them or tells lies.  Children see, children do.
6. Help them be creative.  Who cares if they make a mess?  If you are really worried that they make a mess, teach them to clean after themselves, lay out old newspapers so they keep the place clean.  The amount of creativity that exploded during a time of stress and difficulty during the protests has me totally blown away.
7. Give them chores.  Even toddlers can learn how to pick up their toys.  Good habits are a gift for life.
8. Teach them responsibility.  A responsible generation is a successful one.
9. Teach them to give.  Twice a year ask them to give away toys and clothes.  Children are naturally compassionate, help them learn how to express it in a more useful way.
10. Teach them good manners.  Saying please and thank you, opening doors, being polite and the rest of those good manners really can take you very far in life.
11. Have faith in them.  They already have faith in you, it should be mutual.

Mother's love is universal

Mother's day note :)

Yesterday was Mother's day here in the states. My girls have pampered me with treats. My oldest, Farah booked me for a surprise massage session. She'd told me that she has a meeting in school and we have to pick her friend from some place and that place ended up being the massage center. It was a lovely surprise. My second daughter, Nour fixed me breakfast. Her's was a shock for me because among all her siblings, she's the least to show affection!! but I was so happy to realize that she actually loves me ;)
Now my third daughter Zayna, wrote me tons of love notes and mother's day wishes but this one was the best of all.

 " I hope you can live till your 1000000000000 and still look young "
Now that's a girl that knows her mama...it's all about looking young.....lol


 I hope all of you are well. I missed you!!

The Rest of My Life

To my mom, your mom, to you -- if you are a mom,
all the moms every where, and to me :)
We didn't celebrate it because in the US we celebrate mother's day is in June, but I had a hug and a kiss from my oldest daughter since all her friends from Lebanon were talking about it ;)
I hope you enjoyed it with your loved ones.



I miss Home!!

Despite all the issues, drawbacks, and negatives……I really miss Jordan.

I cried when I heard this song. I wish I can be there now :( If you read these lines and you live in your country, ENJOY every minute of it. Enjoy being able to find family whenever you need them. Enjoy being able to be close to them whenever they need you.  And for those of you who live far from home, you probably know what I mean!!

I miss my mom and dad. You guys who live in Amman, please Salmoli 3alyhom!!

Creativity

I like to decorate and do interior design, in my house of course!! Did I tell you that? Well, now you know ;)
Last week I was stroked by an idea of adding some distinction to my leather cushions that I have in my living room. I was thinking some crystal buttons in black and maroon red but I couldn’t find that type of accent buttons in Hobby Lobby. However, I found leather buttons with the same colors that I was looking for. I know that I am not making any sense, so I will leave with pictures and you will understand what I am talking about.

Was sent to me ...

Our Eid....

was not complete with out Baba. However, I tried to make it fun for the kids even though my tears were about to fall every second :(
Anyway, we went to the Masjid for Eid prayers. I stayed there for as long as I could with my friends since it was so early and there is no where to go and nothing to do. After that, I took the kids for a ride around Fayetteville until 10 am when everything was open. I took them to Chucky Cheese where they played some games. After that we went home, relaxed for a little bet, made and received some phone calls and off we went for lunch. The kids chose to go to a Chinese restaurant where we usually go to with Baba on special occasions. They wanted to go there because it's what he would choose if he was here :)

Today, life went back to normal...school and work.

Happy anniversary

I just realized that I have been blogging for a year now. I started on October 26, 2009. I was in Lebanon. Blogging for me at that time was like talking to a friend, a close friend, a best friend that I didn’t have and couldn't find. But I found all of you my cyber friends :D
Those days where hard at the beginning, just like everything else in life. But things started to clear up afterwards. You all were part of the relief.



A very BIG THANK YOU goes to all of you guys who read what I wrote, gave me feedback, and made me feel that there is someone out there who cares about me even without knowing who I am and how I look like. You became part of my life and I wish I can meet each one of you in person, one day......nchallah!!
